Mel Stein 1945 - 2022

The Principals and staff of Clintons are deeply saddened by the passing of Mel Stein.  Mel was a generous and kind man and will be greatly missed by us all.  Our thoughts are with his wife, children and grandchildren and their wider family. 

Born on 13 July 1945 and educated at Central Foundation Grammar School and King's College, London, Mel was one of the first English solicitors to be regarded as a specialist sports lawyer.

He represented footballers such as Chris Waddle, Paul Gascoigne and Alan Shearer as well as Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

Mel established the Post-Graduate Certificate in Sports Lawat King's College in 1995 and lectured in Sports Law at King's College and as avisiting professor at Coventry University.  He was an examiner on theKing's College course.

He was the author of over twenty books and a regular broadcaster on sports related matters on BBC, GMTV, Sky and Radios 4 and 5.

Mel joined Clintons in January 2005 as a Consultant, specifically to help develop and enhance the firm's expanding and well-regarded sports law practice.

Mel represented and advised several Football League clubs as well as being the legal advisor to The National League.
